Max’s Toybox
Giving the Gift of Play—Again
Santa’s Little Hackers began with a simple mission: to make play accessible for individuals with disabilities. When affordable switch-adapted toys proved hard to find, we started adapting them ourselves. What began as a small project has grown into Santa’s Little Hackers by MaxMods, a nonprofit effort that has supported thousands of individuals over the years.
Now, you can be part of that story by helping us keep the joy going, one toy at a time.
Max’s Toybox is our way to collect and refurbish adapted toys that are no longer in use. When you return a toy your child no longer needs, we’ll inspect it, clean it, and if it’s still safe and functional, we will certify it as refurbished to share with another Santa's Little Hackers toy recipient.
This is a powerful form of mutual aid, made possible by you.
Why Return a Toy?
-
Your child’s adapted toy could bring joy to someone else.
-
You’re helping us reach more toy recipients, especially as many face funding cuts and limited access to assistive toys.
-
You’re giving back in a meaningful way by joining a community that lifts each other up.
What You Need to Know:
-
This is not a trade-in or exchange program.
Sending back a toy does not guarantee a new toy in return. This program is built on community generosity and the shared goal of making fun accessible for all.
-
We only accept toys previously switch adapted.
Our team will determine whether the toy can be safely refurbished. If not, we’ll recycle or dispose of it responsibly.
-
Refurbished toys will be available as an option during our annual toy sign-up.
When families register for a toy, they’ll have the chance to select a certified refurbished toy—another way to stretch our collective impact and bring more joy to more homes.

Why We Call It Max’s Toybox
This program is named for Max, the boy who inspired it all. Just as his first adapted toys opened up a new world for him, your returned toy could do the same for another child. Max is now an adult and has outgrown some of his switch-adapted toys. Like many of the families we serve, he’s ready to pass them on so they can bring joy to someone new.

Max’s Toybox is where toys get a second chance to create joy.
